LEARNING ONLINE

Your learning for these online courses will include a mixture of online resources, in-class days, and on-farm learning.

Online resources

All courses will have a link to your Learning materials. Your learning materials will be made up of extracts from Primary ITO Learner Guides, links to existing resources from organizations like Dairy NZ or Sheep, Beef and Lamb NZ, and some interactive activities to test your knowledge.

In-class days

Some courses will have in-class days where a tutor will take you through what you need to know.

On-farm learning

You might find that some of your courses do not include online resources for all parts of the course. If your course includes an On-farm learning page, this will list the topics that your workplace will have to arrange to teach you on-farm. If you have any questions about this, contact your TA.

ONLINE ASSESSMENTS

Your online courses will include a number of assessment activities. You must pass all assessment activities to pass the course and be awarded the unit standard. Your assessments will be a mixture of theory and practical.

You will be able to use multiple browser tabs to have your learning material open while completing your assessment activities.

Theory activities

Theory assessments in our online courses will be quizzes. These activities can be completed at any time and are open book. You don't have to complete the whole activity in one sitting, you can save your progress as you go and submit when you have answered all of the questions. You can also reattempt easily if you don't pass the first time.

Practical activities

Your practical activities will require you to gather and record evidence of you completing the assessment instructions. Make sure that you read the instructions carefully so that you meet all of the requirements.

Some practical activities will require you to gather evidence over time. You can jump in and out of practical activities as many times as you want and upload bits of evidence as you go.

When you have completed the whole activity and uploaded all of your evidence, you will submit the activity to your verifier. Your verifier will then do their part and once the activity is fully verified it will be automatically sent on to the assessor to be marked.

You can add to your evidence if the verifier or assessor point out that you have missed something and you can easily re-attempt if you don't quite get it right the first time.

WHO ARE LEARNING PARTNERS?

The Learning Partners are the people that are here to support you and help you complete your online learning. If you have done training with the Primary ITO before you will be familiar with these roles.

They include your:

  • Verifier

  • Assessor

  • Training Adviser.

Verifier

Your Verifier will be someone on-farm who is an expert in the things you are studying. Your Verifier will need to look at all of your practical assessment activities once they are complete and confirm that your work meets industry and workplace requirements.

Assessor

Your Assessor will look at all of your assessment activities (including your verifiers feedback) and make a final decision about whether you have completed the activity competently. This decides if you pass an activity.

Training Adviser

Your Training Adviser (also known as TA) is here to help! Your TA will visit you on-farm to check how you are progressing through your courses. If you have any questions about your online learning, contact your TA first.
